June 23, 1960 - August 11, 2006

On August 11, 2006, my best friend, companion, soulmate and hero went to be with her Lord and Saviour. The emptiness I feel now is enormous, but the gratitude I feel for having been able to share 21 years and 1 day with this wonderful woman are what keeps me going. She gave me two beautiful and strong children and we will always respect and admire the courage that Laura showed during her brave battle. We miss her every  minute of every day.

Laura Navarro is my little sister. She, her husband Rob, and their children Joe and Haley are the loves of my life. No disease will ever change that. Ironically, the disease makes me cherish them more. I stand in awe of their strength and courage – and humor.The journey has been tough - but everyone is still standing, and most days even smiling as there is much to be grateful for.

Laura loves being a wife and mom. Those roles bring her such joy. She and Rob have had to teach their children at an early age how to deal with adversity, and what constitutes true love – not the stuff you see on TV. They have great kids who understand the important things in life.Laura worked as a pediatric nurse and was terrific – so dedicated and caring! I hope someday she can be involved in nursing again since professionals of her caliber are desperately needed.

Laura is the “Family Hero” who had the courage to be genetically tested, giving every woman in our family the key to unlock the door to health and hope.I believe in my lifetime I will see ovarian cancer defeated. My little sister Laura is one of the courageous people who stands at the front lines fighting. I salute her and give her all the love my heart can hold.
