December 6, 1989 - July 1, 2010

Samantha "Sami" Moody was an amazing girl, full of life, fun, and kindness. Anyone who met her wanted to be her friend. At the age of 20 she was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer and only 5 short months later on July 1, 2010 she passed away. Her spirit will forever live on in the countless number of people whose lives she touched in her short time here.
Sami lived outside of Chicago in Indiana. She attended Purdue University Calumet and wanted to pursue a career in health care, possibly nursing. As often as possible Sami and her family would come to North Carolina to visit my mom and I (her aunt and cousin). She loved it here, especially at the beach! Sami can often be spotted in pictures proudly wearing her Carolina sweatshirt. In 2005, during the NCAA Championship with UNC and Illinois, being in the heart of Big Ten country, Sami and only one other person in her class were pulling for the Heels, but that didn’t stop her. Since she loved it here so much, we really wanted to do something to honor her memory here in North Carolina, and this walk seemed like the perfect tradition to begin.
